I interned with the exhibit design department at the Rochester Museum and Science Center during the summer of 2021. I created vector based fish illustrations for use in their permanent exhibit, Wonders of Water which opened in Fall 2022. These fish are hung within a climbing structure to mimic the depths where these fish live within Lake Ontario.
Rochester Museum and Science Center Internship
-
I began by talking with the exhibit design team and staff biologist about which fish would be featured in this exhibit.
-
I then began working on the design of the fish, focusing on a friendly design to appeal to the primary demographic, children. I presented 2 style options to the exhibit team and we discussed which would work best for the exhibit.
-
I then began production on the 21 illustrations. I created 21 illustrations in 9 weeks. The outline was used as a cut line for the CNC router to cut out the fish and the illustrations were printed and mounted to these cutouts. The final product was then hung within the climbing structure.
Exhibit Documentation
The exhibit opened on Friday November 11th, 2022 and will be on permanent display at the Rochester Museum and Science Center.
Final Illustrations
These illustrations were created using Adobe Illustrator over the course of 9 weeks.

Coloring Sheets
I also created coloring pages for use in the education department that coordinated with my fish illustrations for the exhibit. These coloring pages will be used to facilitate learning in coordination with the exhibit.
